U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce issued the following statement on the Native American Energy Act, H.R. 538, which passed the House today by a vote of 254-173:

"Many tribes across the country struggle with poverty and stagnant economic growth," said Pearce. "This bill works to streamline the various regulatory hurdles faced by tribes seeking to create the job and other economic benefits that come with oil and gas production. As sovereign nations, tribal governments must be afforded the flexibility to create economic opportunity to break this cycle. Unfortunately for tribes, this administration's burdensome regulations and expansive bureaucracy have spread into their communities, slowing economic growth and killing jobs. The Administration needs to stop hampering Native American economic growth. I call on the President to support this important legislation."
